Really well run. Registration went fast and no problems with our event tickets. Couldn't ask for a better registration. I have one (or two) complaints though. We had 2 events where the GMs didn't show up. That's not Origins' fault, but something needs to be done about this. We got our money back - no problem there - but our time (which is much more valuable than $2.00) was wasted by these GMs. Very unprofessional. I would recommend that GAMA/Origins consider not letting these GMs/organizations participate in future Origins. |

I second that. This was our first time at the con, and we were surprised how many no-shows (4) from GMs we had. We understand that people have emergencies, etc., but it seemed really unlikely that all those no-shows were unavoidable. That was half of our pre-reg TT events. Once you wait around for 15 minutes for a GM to show, your chance of hopping into something else is pretty low, so we were pretty displeased with that (although overall, we had a great time anyway!). I agree that the time wasted is a lot more valuable than the $2. Also, I think it should be made clear to GM's what "running" an event means. One large gaming club (GB7) was "running" games with no supervision. When we had five brand new players for a moderately complex game, we had to go and ask them to send someone over to teach the game, and they only did this after a lot of shuffling people around to take someone else's spot. They did not play the whole game with us, but just explained the rules and left us to fend for ourselves. We consulted a rule book a lot. Similarly, when I was the only person to show up for a 2-4 person game, they canceled it, instead of running it with me against the GM. My understanding is that we paid the $2-4 to have someone run the whole game, not just lend us the box. Is that wrong? Were other GMs just going above and beyond? |

GB7 has this reputation, unfortunately. They do have some conscientious GMs, but I think they spread themselves very thin because typically they expect that at least one of the people who signs up for a given game will know how to play and be willing to teach others. I don't want to give them a hard time, but... apparently I'm not the only one who has had issues with this in the past. |

The two games that we had where GMs did not show up were... Vintage Gaming: Warlocks & Warriors (3022) - The GM was Edwin Dyer. Her showed up about 20 minutes eating a sandwich and said that Origins messed up the schedule. I'm not going to guess who did what, but if I'm a GM, I'm checking the schedule of events and making sure that things get corrected before the con. Wits & Waters (3550) - The GM was Satish Pillalamarri. He never showed up at all. Both Edwin and Satish will be on my DNR (do not register) list for next year. |

There were a lot of problems Wednesday with the RPGs because Origins thought they had some rooms in the Hyatt that they ended up not having. Now that I think about it, I had a GM show up about 35 minutes late to the swimming pool LARP Thursday because she was sent to the wrong hotel's pool. The acoustics in the Crowne Plaza swimming pool room were pretty bad - small room, lots of echoes - so I kind of wish we'd all gone to the Hyatt pool instead or something rather than dragging her over to the one at the Crowne Plaza Sometimes I think it's hard to know if it's the GM's fault or if they're relying on bad information. Of course, I'm not saying that in other cases it isn't pretty easy to assign blame, either. |

I try not to run people or groups down behind their backs, so I forwarded these posts to an individual at Game Base 7 (they don't seem to be aware of this forum). Apparently I may have hit a nerve - I was asked to post the following in response: >>>>> Just to let you know this year I had like 5 of my gms cancel on me at the last minute. Also we try and have a GM for each game. Unfortunately that might mean taking a GM from one game that don't really need the help and move them to another game that needs more help. Our GM's are also volunteers so they don't really get paid to do it, they just do it for the fun of it. We put together a group of games based on what people like and what the manufacturers want us to run. One of the things I try to do as a Coordinator is to get the games taught. The next thing I am doing is talking to the manufactures to try and help by giving us a few of there demo people. Also any help that anyone out there can give would help us tremendously. I can get you a badge for 16 hours of work. This way you can still enjoy your con. You can also put in your own games you want to run.
Also I would like to challenge any one out there on any problems that you may have had with GB7 in the last 4 years. If you can not confront me then I will take it that you are a coward and all you are trying to do is smudge a good name in the gaming industry. My email address is kogt@cinci.rr.com. Please feel free to email me on this and on if you would like to help out at the con. Thank You Sir John D. Minderman >>>>> (Not sure why the font size changed mid-post...)
