Rules and Procedures
All artwork submitted must have a Science Fiction/Fantasy and/or Gaming related subject.
Models, miniatures and pre-cast commercially available forms must be custom modified.
We strongly recommend you hang originals in the art show and place prints in the print shop, but we will accept Certified Limited Edition Prints in the art show.
Hanging works do not need to be framed; however artwork MUST BE MATTED.
ORIGINS will not be held responsible for artwork lost, stolen or damaged in transit, and will not be responsible for artwork not picked up by closing time of the show. This does not include mail-in art, which will be returned according to the instructions given in the artist's registration.
The artist or artist's agent must read, sign, and complete an Artist Registration Form before any works will be displayed. The form must be on file during the show.
All art submitted in the art show is qualified to be judged by our panel of professional Artists and Art Directors in our Juried Art Competition. Amateurs and Professionals will be judged separately and awarded First, Second and Third Place Ribbons in the following categories:
- Best Monochromatic Work
- Best Color Work
- Best Three-Dimensional or Mixed-Media Work
- Best Science Fiction Work
- Best Fantasy Work
- Best Historical Work
- Best Contemporary Work
- Best Game-Related Work
As well as Fan Favorite Best of Show. [Ballots will be enclosed with every freebie bag]. Criteria used in the judging will be posted to the Origins Web site shortly.
Please specify which categories (by numbers listed above) you are submitting you art for in the Juried Art Competition on the Artist Registration Form.
Fees and Commissions:
Origins charges a 10% commission on all sales. Artists with a booth in the Artist Colony are only subject to a 5% commission. All sales in the Art Show room are handled by the Art Show Staff.
Panels in the art show are 8 feet wide and 4 feet tall. They are hung 30 inches from the floor allowing the artist to fully utilize the space. A single panel costs $60 to rent.
Booths in the Artist Colony in the Art Show are rented for $190 and $240. The $190 booth will include 2 panels, one 6-foot table, two chairs, and two Full Attending Memberships to Origins. The $240 booth will include all of the above and one more panel for a total of three. There are a limited number of both sizes of booth, please register EARLY!
The Origins Art Show Print Shop is available for the sale of prints to the public. Origins limits an artist to 30 pieces in the Print Shop. If an artist rents 3 or more panels he/she can then submit up to 60 pieces to the Print Shop.
Art mailed for submission in the art show is subject to a $20 per crate handling fee. All mail in art must be clearly identified (tagged on back of piece).
All art submitted by mail must be accompanied be an outline of how the artist wants the art to be hung on the panel.
All artists submitting art by mail must include a check to cover return shipping and insurance. If the return shipping is reduced through the sale of art, the difference will be refunded to the artists.
How to Buy Art at ORIGINS
Art is both available in the Art Show and the Print Shop. Art in the Print Shop is priced directly for sale. Art hanging in the Art Show are available for auction (silent bid only) or available for Quick Sale (Buy it Now Price) if it has no bids on it. Listing a quick sale price is optional and at the discretion of the artist.
In order to bid on pieces in the silent auction, you need to register as an attendee of origins and your badge number becomes your bidder number.
